Well I have to start out with Floyd's interview with ESPN yesterday. Landis told the American TV network that he has "pretty much written off this season" in terms of competing. Landis went on to say, "I spend the same amount of time and energy trying to gain whatever resources are necessary and trying to learn what I need to learn, trying to solve this problem, as I spent trying to win the Tour. Every single day."
He's one of the greatest cyclists of our time and he's wasting his talents on paperwork. Dick Pound would tell us that the sport of cycling is made stronger by this process. But he's wrong.
Big Tom Boonen is still hot in the Middle East taking yet another win on stage three at the Tour of Qatar yesterday. Poor Graeme Brown (Rabobank) can't catch a break in this year's race and again lost the sprint to Boonen at the wire. I think that that's just plain old bad karma after taking out poor Tom Steels on stage two. You have to play nice with the other kids Graeme if you want to get ahead.
Happy to see that the lovely Cathy Mehl is back from Disco training camp. I feared that she might not return having run off with Basso or Levi or even Chechu (who I think is her favourite). Can't wait to read her interview with the boys in black and blue. I'll be sure to add links here when they're posted.
I have to admit that I wasn't too sure about the new Discovery kit when they first unveiled it a few months ago. To be honest, I thought they looked a bit like wet suits. But after seeing Liz Kruetz's photos from Solvang training camp last week - I have come full circle on that. I am now a big fan.
The Discovery Channel boys begin their 2007 season of Feb 11 at the Vuelta a Mallorca in Spain.
The season's beginning folks - can't wait!
